Community-Engaged Alliance is honored to recognize our community partners without whom none of this work would be possible. In 2022, we are recognizing United Way of St. Joseph County (UWSJC), as nominated by the University of Notre Dame. UWSJC has been working hand-in-hand with the University and supporting students for nearly 20 years.

We recognize the incredible dedication and work that our partner institutions’ community partners put into co-educating their students, and we know that whether we talk about community service, service-learning, community-based research, or any other form of community engagement, institutions are not doing the work alone. It is only accomplished through strong reciprocal partnerships with community organizations.

In the University of Notre Dame's letter of nomination, they said, "UWSJC undoubtedly plays a critical role as a co-educator in the development of our students as civic leaders. Multiple players at UWSJC act as mentors and leaders for students on campus. For example, this past academic year, UWSJC's Director of Outreach and Partnership Development, Mrs. Velshonna Luckey, acted as a co-instructor for two different Notre Dame courses as well as formally mentored seven Notre Dame students. As a co-instructor, Mrs. Luckey consistently engaged students during class time as well as assessed and guided project development to ensure that it remained in alignment with serving community-identified needs."
