Join us for the Summit and Research Symposium on April 7-8, 2022 at French Lick Resort.
The Summit is Indiana Campus Compact’s signature event of the year and brings together experts from around the country, the region, and from our own backyard as speakers and presenters who weave their work with community engagement in higher education.
This year, we are adding a new element to the 2022 Summit—a Research Symposium—to create a two-day professional development opportunity for faculty, staff, students, administrators, and community partners. The 2022 Summit and Research Symposium is a unique opportunity for our field to focus on the intersection of research and practice.
2022 Conference Theme
Moving Forward: Engagement for a new way of thinking, doing, and belonging.
The past two years have highlighted that the ‘old normal’ wasn’t working. As we move into new ways of thinking, doing, and belonging, we are reminded that equitable and inclusive environments enable diverse people of various races, classes, languages, national origins, culture, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, or (dis)ability to find their place in society and thrive. In higher education, inclusiveness and social justice translate into learning, working, and research environments that promote equal opportunities to people from different backgrounds. It is here, by centering inclusive community-campus engagement, that higher education can be a catalyst for moving forward.
The conference will feature sessions that highlight the following focus areas:
- Civic education and engagement
- Community and collective impact
- Community-engaged/publicly engaged scholarship
- Critical community engagement
- Evaluation and assessment
- Grant-funded projects/research
- Justice, equity, and liberation
- Strategic implementation
- Student development/leadership

More than Another Chair at the Table: Centering Community Knowledge
Dr. Rachael Shah, Associate Professor of Composition and Rhetoric at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and author of Rewriting Partnerships: Community Perspectives on Community-Based Learning
In this keynote, Dr. Rachael Shah will explore the transformative potential of community-based knowledge for both teaching and research, drawing from interviews of over 80 community partners to build a rationale for centering—not just including—community insights. Shah will dive into the practical questions of how to rework partnerships to access and build from this knowledge. The presentation will feature the voices of community members themselves, as they offer stories and insights about the dynamics of working with university students and researchers. Shah will offer an invitation for attendees to consider how to more deeply draw on the community-based expertise in their own partnerships.
Closing Keynote Panel | Friday, April 8, 2022
